daily inspiration: mila kunis

I love Mila Kunis as an actress: she cracked me up as Jackie Burkhart on That 70's Show ten years ago and she's great in movies today. She's also had a lot of hot looks on and off the red carpet. Here are some of my favorite looks and some other reasons why I think she's so cool:

Everyone remembers this look. It was a great moment for Mila on the red carpet at the 2011 Academy Awards. The dress, designed by Elie Saab, is a gorgeous lavender color and a great silhouette for Mila. She absolutely killed it from the hair to the accessories. So pretty!

Mila is pretty in purple but she also stuns in emerald! I love this color on her and but I think it could have complemented her tiny frame a bit better. Maybe if it were more fitted or had less ruching...

Mila has amazing legs! They're so slender but not skinny little stick legs at the same time. I'm so jealous haha. I especially love the second outfit here. I LOOOVE this dress and the shoes are so sleek and simple!

Mila isn't afraid to mix it up with textures and prints as you can see in this look.

This look is one that any girl could and should replicate! A simple black top and/or sweater with a dark skinny jean and cute heels. So easy yet so classy! Her straight, polished hair and demure makeup make it seem so effortless!

While she's young and fresh, Mila also knows how to look mature and elegant. This dress is very modest but I love the lace overlays and the purple earrings to give it depth. I'm not entirely impressed by her shoes but she looks so gorgeous that I'm willing to overlook them!

I hope you enjoyed my perspective on today's daily inspiration, Mila Kunis!

All images were taken from zimbio.com and tumblr.

3/12/13 - So when I originally wrote this post I looked for hours trying to find this gif but couldn't and now I just stumbled upon it on tumblr! Mila was asked by the interviewer if she had one insecurity about her body and I love her response, it's just shows how real she is. And her facial expression is priceless! haha

Cop My Cart

I always have items that I want to purchase in my online shopping cart. It's probably a sick obsession but I like to constantly plan purchases on sites that I regularly check and order from. Typically this is Nasty Gal, Karmaloop, Free People, and some other random websites. So here are some of the items that I have saved in my shopping carts right now!

This is the We The Free Mad Hatter 3/4 Tee. I love the tie dye ombre and the two colors work beautifully together. At $78 its a little pricier for a simple t-shirt, but Free People tends to be great quality.

The next item is an adorable heel from Nasty Gal called the Hathaway Platform. Here it is in the camel color but it also comes in a black. These are simple and go great with so many outfits, a must have for any fashionista!

This is the Paradise City Dress from Nasty Gal and it's by Motel, a brand I love. The pattern creates a nice body shape without being obvious and the colors make it great for any season.

This is the Solitaire Shoe in black by Jeffrey Campbell which can be purchased from Karmaloop. This is not a specific shoe that I plan on buying but overall Karmaloop is a great online store to buy Jeffrey Campbells. They have many on sale and in great styles like this classic heel. So cute and at an affordable price!

And lastly a piece I would love to own but am too poor to buy: the gorgeous Cowgirl Dreams Tassel Vest in Turquoise by Spell and the Gypsy Collective. I really don't think I have to explain this because it stands on its own.

Ok but really that color?!? So pretty.

That's all for now! Comment below and let me know which of these you would buy! And check back soon and I'll have more great purchases for you to check out ;)

LOOKBOOK update: vol. 2

I'm back from a weekend home that went much too quickly and bringing you another lookbook.nu update! Here are my favorite looks:
This look is from Bernadette and I love her style. This is one of her more reserved looks but I love the monochromatic color scheme and dark lipstick. The pointy toe heels are very in now too!

I included these next two looks from Flavia mostly because I want to be on a beach right now... but also because I love how she manages to be fashionable while relaxing on vacation! I love how flowy these pieces are and they are perfect for wearing over bikinis. Find the full looks here and here.

This last look is perfect for the weather where I am right now. Boots are necessary when there's snow on the ground and a military-inspired jacket is great for keeping warm. See the pieces Lina is wearing to pull it off here.

Back in Black

For some reason ever since I decided to call this post Back in Black the song Back in the Saddle by Aerosmith has been playing in my head... but anyways this is an outfit I wore last weekend out with some friends. I bought this top from Akira over winter break but haven't been able to find it online. Akira has a lot of great boutique-style clothing which you can find here at shopakira.com. The top of the shirt is a landscape with some mountains and a galaxy in black and white, and the peplum is a shiny wet-look black. It's not a crop top but it falls right at the top of my jeans. This is great if you're short like me because the peplum wont be too long, but it's not too short where your stomach is on display. My jeans are basic black Guess skinny jeans and my shoes are Jeffrey Campbell Clinics which I talked about here and here. Now that I have worn them more I am planning on doing a review specifically on those but for now I'll just say that they are a great addition to any outfit! I also carried a woven wristlet that I got as a gift from my mom and wore my black faux leather jacket to brave the cold.

I used Paul Mitchell styling glaze after straightening my hair and it stayed silky and straight throughout the night. See my full review here. My makeup also held up really nicely. I took this picture just before I washed my face at the end of the night. The mascara I used is The Rocket Volum' Express by Maybelline. I got it from my local Walgreens and I prefer the washable kind but it also comes in waterproof. Sorry for the dumb #duckface I was just being silly when I took this pic :P

Product Review: Paul Mitchell

I bought the Paul Mitchell Super Sculpt Quick-drying styling glaze and it has quickly become my favorite hair product for all styles. When I wake up in the morning after letting it air-dry the night before my hair is usually curly with a decent amount of frizz. All I do before I leave for class is put a nickel size amount of this in my hand and spread it lightly through my hair. It smooths down any wild hairs without leaving my hair crunchy or sticky. Last weekend I straightened my hair in the first time in a while and when I was done I used the styling glaze. Right away, it looked shinier and smoother. Then, when I got home after 3 hours out with my friends, it was still looking great! Usually my hair will start to curl while I'm out, especially my ends. When I got home Saturday night my hair still looked great and hadn't curled. I was so pleased! I also really like this product because it is fairly unscented. It pretty much just smells like a nice, neutral soap and doesn't conflict with other smells, like my perfume. I got this from the Walgreens on campus and I think it was around $12 which isn't bad because it is so useful and will last a long time. I highly recommend it for all hair types especially frizzy hair like mine!

Nasty Gal Spring 2013 Collection

The Nasty Gal Spring 2013 Collection came out today and it's all so cute! I don't think all of the pieces are out yet so hopefully there's more to come! The style is very 90s scuba diver chic if that makes sense at all haha. Their collections tend to be a little bit pricier than the other clothes on their website so if you plan to purchase anything get ready to shell out some extra dough. I have one dress that is Mink Pink x Nasty Gal and it is great quality so I expect the same from these items. I would say this collection is a little bit less wearable for day to day purposes than their last but still super cute and easy to incorporate into your wardrobe. Here are some of my favorite pieces:

Brave New World Tank and Chaos Theory Leggings of the same prints and colors

Close Encounters Dress with the same design. I love these cutouts at the back. Lately the cutouts I've seen are getting mundane but these are so unique! I love how her shoulder blades just peek through.

Lastly, I love this outfit especially the top which isn't on the website yet. This is the Odyssey Skirt which also comes in a peachy color.

All the names for these pieces sound kind of space themed but they still remind me of scuba divers. The crop top in the last photo looks like a wetsuit to me and I think that is what they were going for. I have read interviews with Sophia Amoruso, the owner and creater of Nasty Gal, where she describes her interest in working with neoprene (which I think all of these pieces are made out of) which is also what they use to make wetsuits. Anyway, those are my favorites of the collection so far! Let me know which pieces you like the best below :)

Gone for Lunch

It's my first outfit post! Whoo! Ok so I thought I would start with something simple... last weekend I went to lunch with one of my roommates and this is what I wore! We were just getting BBQ so it wasn't fancy; we even walked there haha the life of a college kid without a car. Actually I love walking and it was such a nice sunny day so it worked out. But anyways I wore a Lucky Brand shirt which has long sleeves but i rolled them up. From far away it looks like it has a floral print but up close its actually all different shapes like lions and fruit and reindeer. It has a tie at the bottom on the left side so you can make it loose or tighter so it looks a little bit puffy and I prefer to tie it. The belt is also Lucky Brand and its a pretty cognac color with a brass buckle and embossed flowers. The jeans are Mavi and the shoes I'm wearing in this picture are navy Jeffrey Campbell Venice Wedges that I got from NastyGal but I didn't wear them to lunch because it was still wet out and they're suede. So here are some pictures! Sorry for the awkward mirror picture I'll try to figure out something else a little more "professional" haha

LOOKBOOK update

Lately I've kind of slacked on checking lookbok.nu everyday so when I went to check today I had 217 new posts on my homepage. Oopsy! As long as I was catching up on them I figured I would share with you my favorites from the bunch.

I figured I would start with this look because lately I've been obsessed with all black outfits. Black has always been my favorite color to wear but when I was a kid I thought people would think I was emo if I wore all black haha well now unfortunately I couldn't give two shits if people think I'm emo and I love the simplicity of an all black outfit. The moto jacket and ankle booties that Victoria T. wears here pull the look together and keep it chic.

In the second outfit every piece of clothing hits one of 5 trends of the moment.
1. her hair has a simple yet cute wave to it
2. galaxy print. and she incorporates it into her outfit in a SHEER JACKET. whut. i might have to go buy me one of these!
3. a simple white tee with a black graphic is always in style
4. black leggings, especially ones like these with a mesh paneling are so versatile yet still unique
5. these are Jeffrey Campbell look-a-likes yet are still a staple in any edgy girl's wardrobe. its safe to say I'm obsessed and JC is my hero. end of story.

Find the full look here.
Monochromatic and bohemian. The shaggy jacket and beanie are very on trend and the layered necklaces finish the outfit nicely. I love this look by Jill W.

This look is great. The leather jacket and maxi skirt are complete opposites in color and texture but the white crop top is simple yet necessary. If she was wearing a bulky or colorful top I don't think this outfit would be as attractive or slimming. And another beanie to finish it off :)

This last look is from one of my favorite bloggers (for the moment haha). Amy Valentine has great, edgy clothes and I love how she styles these leggings with simple black pieces (notice the Jeffrey Campbell spike coltrane shoes?? Amazing!) See the full look here and her entire blog here.
Ok so I lied. I just realized that all the above looks have primarily black pieces of clothing... so I figured I'd throw in this look by "Slim" Shayla D. to add some color. It was just Valentine's day and I love the bright pink dress with the simple heels that match perfectly. Since the color is so bright I really like how she kept it simple and didn't pile on any accessories. So cute! Have a great Valentine's weekend (if that's even a thing?) and comment below on your favorite look of the six!
